Most visitors to Bucharest land at Henri Coandă International Airport (OTP) in Otopeni, about 17 km north of the city centre. Picking up your rental car there saves a taxi ride and an hour of your first day. This is how it works with Lindenway.
Before you fly
When you book, give us your flight number. We follow the arrival time ourselves, so if your flight is early or late you do not need to call. Send us photos of your driving licence and ID beforehand and the hand-over takes ten minutes instead of thirty.
Meeting us at arrivals
Our agent waits in the arrivals hall after customs, with a sign showing your name. From there it is a short walk to the car park where the car is waiting. We hand over cars at the airport around the clock, including the first flights of the morning and the last ones at night.
If you cannot see us, call the number on your confirmation. Someone always answers.
Hand-over in the car park
At the car we:
- check your licence and ID against the booking;
- walk around the car with you and photograph it;
- take the deposit on a card in the driver's name;
- show you the controls, the fuel type and where the safety kit is.
Then you drive off. Our checklist explains what to look at during the walk-around.
Your flight is very late
It happens. We wait for delayed flights at no extra charge, and if your flight is cancelled we move your booking to the new date. Just let us know as soon as you can.
Driving from the airport into Bucharest
The airport sits on the DN1, the main road north from Bucharest towards Ploiești and Brașov. Into the city:
- follow the signs for București and stay on the DN1, which becomes the wide Bulevardul Ion Ionescu de la Brad and then Șoseaua Kiseleff;
- the drive to Piața Victoriei takes 25 to 30 minutes outside rush hour and up to an hour on a weekday evening;
- Bucharest's traffic and parking need a little planning, especially if your hotel is in the old town.
Heading to the mountains instead? From the airport you are already on the right road: the DN1 and the A3 take you to Sinaia and Brașov without crossing the city.
Returning the car at the airport
Return the car to the same car park and give us a call when you are 30 minutes away. Leave enough time for the return check, about 15 minutes, and for the airport itself. We release the deposit the same day if all is well.
Fill up before the airport: there are several petrol stations on the DN1 between the city and Otopeni.
Prefer the city?
You can also collect the car at our office in the centre, or we can bring it to your hotel. Choose your car in the fleet and tell us where you would like it.
